Finger Food Platter Ideas

Are you looking for some innovative ideas for your Perth finger food platters? Then you’ve come to the right place! We have all sorts of ideas that are compelling yet straightforward to make for your next event. Whether it’s a small get together or hosting a party, we’ve got the right selection of options you can choose from.

Cheese
Preparing a cheese platter is probably one of the most comfortable finger food platters you can make. Yet, it can be the most impressive platter at the same time. Many party hosts can make the mistake of providing only one type of cheese. This is your opportunity to become really inventive by adding different varieties of cheese. Here you can have anything from camembert to red Leicester, and halloumi to feta cheese. Plenty of options are at your disposal.
You can also become inventive with cheese. A wedge of cheese with a stylish knife on a wooden board can already have a trendy shabby chic effect to it. However, you can also go the extra mile and create goats cheese skewers, making it even easier for your guests to nibble on. Cheese is especially significant if you are to be serving red wine as the two delicacies complement each other incredibly well.

Meatballs
This is one you might not have been expecting to see. Although meatballs aren’t the most sophisticated option you can go for, it is by far one of the most popular ones eaten at gatherings and events. This option also comes very easy to prepare as you can produce them well ahead of time. Being small and delicious makes them the perfect choice for finger food. Meatballs also allow you to become adventurous with a variety of options. You can produce spicy, Mexican or even Greek meatballs! Combine these with a creamy flavoursome tomato sauce, and you’ll have your guests pouncing at the finger food platter.

Fruit
If you’re looking to keep things healthy, why not go for a fruit platter? A finger fruit platter can be one of the easiest on the eye platters by being filled with its wide range of colour and natural appeal. This is especially great for the summer months as it’s a great way of allowing your guests to indulge in hearty foods. You can become creative with this too by adding sides such as yogurt, honey and even granola!

Dips
Every party needs a selection of dips; and a variety of dips too. Dips can allow even the blandest foods become exciting such as crisps, bread, celery etc. Not only that, it’s one of the easiest platters you can make. Simply scoop good portions out into relatively small bowls and put them out for guests to try out. Consider using popular dips such as, sweet chilli, sour cream, chive etc. to really allow your guests to enjoy your platter. If you’re feeling brave, you can also have a go at different recipes and producing your own dips.

What To Look For In A Corporate Caterer

If you’re looking for a catering service for a corporate event, the professionalism, efficiency, and taste are the most important components that a caterer must have. Corporate events are where people of significance gather, you don’t want to ruin the reputation of your company by serving sub-par food at a high-end event.

In recent years, the norms for corporate events have shifted from serious and professional to a more casual style. As the years go by, more and more people are being turned off from the idea of being too “corporate,” and the black suit look has been associated with many a negative thing. Also, the newer generations care more about performance and comfort than dress codes and seniority.

From all of these reasons combined, you can understand why most catering services have turned more towards comfort foods and family-style dishes rather than the traditional finger foods. The main question is what exactly a great corporate catering service is, which is what we’re going to discuss in this article.

Why is corporate catering so important?

When you host an event, you’re showing your guests that you’re being generous and willing to open your arms to other people and show them something good. You can use these events as a minor networking event where you get to meet and talk to new contacts, which may open up new business opportunities for your company. Food is a very big part of our lives. Think about it – just about every important event and milestone in your life has probably involved food. Therefore, it’s pretty reasonable to expect that corporate events should involve some good eats.

With that said, here are four elements that make for a good corporate event caterer:

An understanding of the size of the event

The size of the event will tell the catering service a lot about what they should expect and how much people they should be prepared to serve. The bigger the event, the less complicated and more prepared the food should be.

The ability to create an atmosphere

A corporate event will usually be more serious than a casual event when it’s not managed well. People will act as if they’re attending a work-related event, and if that’s not what you want, then you want to make sure that the caterer has a way to lighten the mood.

An air of professionalism

A catering service has to understand how to conduct themselves, and in a corporate event, people will often have a high expectation for everything in the event. You want all the chefs and staff to be as discreet as possible, as that will guarantee that they won’t interfere with the guests’ activities and conversation.

The delivery of good food and good service

It should go without saying that the food and service quality should be on point because how the catering service performs will reflect on your brand. If they can’t deliver good food or customer service, then you, as the host, will suffer for it. You want to look for a caterer that has had years of experience in the field to make sure that they are as capable and professional at what they do. After all, you want professionals representing you

Tips For A Successful Event With Catering

If you are hosting an event, you don’t want to leave your guests disappointed when they find that the quality of your foods is less than satisfactory. To make sure that your catering game is as strong as it can be, you need to know the right things to do and to avoid. Here are a few things you need to keep in mind when catering for your next event:

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

Know the Number

First of all, the most important part of hosting an event that you need to get right is ensuring that you know the number of guests. This is to make sure that you have enough foods prepared for everyone. Nothing is worse than leaving your guests hungry after the event wraps up. Also, be careful not to go overboard. You don’t want to waste your money on food if there aren’t going to be enough attendees to finish it.

Be Inclusive

Another important thing to remember is the dietary needs of your guests. Because it’s unlikely that you will be informed beforehand how many vegans or vegetarians there are among your guests, it’s better to always include options for everyone, including meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans, and people with specific requirements. Making sure that everyone feels included should be on top of your priority list.

Go For Seasonal Selections

It’s always a good idea to throw some seasonal options on your catering menu. This will ensure the freshness of your foods as well as low the cost.

Support the Locals

Along the same line, getting your ingredients from a local shop can be an excellent way to give back to the community.

Have an Appropriate Menu

Make sure that your menu is appropriate to the time and place of the event. Not everyone wants to have pancakes and slices of bacon late in the evening. Also, you need to take into consideration the type of venue you’re hosting. If you’re catering a buffet, you will want to make sure that your venue has enough space for your guests to move around freely as well as appropriate tables to put their plates on. On the contrary, if you’re having a cocktail party where your guests will be mingling and walking around, finger foods might be your best choice.

Sufficient Staffs

You have to make sure that there is enough staff on duty to serve your guests. Moreover, make sure you hire competent staff members who are polite and well-mannered in order to make your guests feel welcome and comfortable during the event.

WHAT YOU NEED TO AVOID:

Spoiled Foods

Do not ever leave food outside of the fridge. The food will need to be prepared before the scheduled time of the event, and you don’t want everything to go bad before the MC even opens the event! Avoid hearing multiple complaints of food poisoning the day after your event by ensuring that everything you serve is fresh.

Overwhelming Your Guests

You should send out the food at appropriate intervals to allow people time to savor each plate. It can be quite overwhelming for your guests if they are being bombarded by all of the dishes at once.

Bad Timing

Even though you need to cook and get everything out in time for the event, you don’t want to cook the food earlier than necessary. This is particularly true for hot foods, such as soup, that should be served hot. Having your foods prepared too early can turn even the greatest quality food into something unpleasant.

Cluttered Space

To keep the area clean and sightly, you should always have your staff clear out empty food trays and glasses throughout the event. Your guests should be able to move around without having to worry about which glass of wine is theirs.

Improper Staffs

Again, having great waiters and waitresses are essential if you want to host a successful event. To keep it professional, your staff should only be there to serve the foods and drinks, and nothing else. Most importantly, they need to know how to treat guests with respect.

Visual Presentation – Why it is Important For Your Next Event

When we talk about catering services, many people will say the taste is the top priority, and any other aspects are secondary. The truth is that the way the food is visually presented is equally, if not more important than the taste of the food itself.

Think about it. When was the last time you’ve ever seen a poorly presented dish from a top-tier catering service? Chances are that’s never happened while the tastes may fluctuate for each caterer. This proves our point that for catering services, the presentation is of utmost importance.

Why is a visual appeal so important?

People are driven by looks more than anything else. We judge everything based on how it looks, as that’s typically the first piece of information we have about anything we come across. When it comes to food, we judge it based on the look, smell, and taste, but the very first thing that we can really perceive is how the dish looks.

This is why food that’s made into unappealing shapes are so off-putting, regardless of its taste. Imagine having to eat a neon-blue pizza that everybody says tastes just like a normal pizza. We would bet that most people don’t find the blue pizza very appetizing. The same principle applies to any dish out there, but probably not on the same scale as fluorescent baked goods.

How does that translate to a catering service?

People associate taste with food that looks a certain way. If your dish doesn’t look appealing, the guests will most likely say that the food doesn’t taste good, even if it’s actually one of the best dishes you will ever find. It’s simple psychology, really.

We unconsciously let our first impression, perception, and judgment dictate how we feel about something, and this perception is very hard to get rid of. Usually, we aren’t keen on giving second chances, especially for things that don’t matter too much. That’s why catering services have to make sure that their food looks the best so that they don’t have to beg for second chances.

How does the visual appeal add value to the event or venue?

It’s hard to make people remember your service, but by making a memorable presentation to your centerpiece of a dish, you will help to bump up the value of your meal by a mile. For example, say you attend a gathering where the food choices consist of boring finger foods and mediocre drink choices.

The food may be incredible, but that’s all that they’re going to remember. If you have a chocolate fondue fountain in the middle of the venue where every guest can dip their dessert into, that holds a lot more weight than a dish that just tastes good.

So which is more important?

As mentioned, we wouldn’t say that the visual appeal should take priority over everything else about the catering, but it’s just as important as the taste. A bad meal is a bad meal, and there’s no excuse for that, no matter how good your dishes look.

That being said, visual appeal is important. After all, people eat with their eyes first. It’s usually best to find a fine balance between aesthetics and taste.

If you’re looking for a creative catering service that can bring your favourite dishes to life, please give us a call! Here at Elegant Touch, we pay meticulous attention to every detail, that goes into the process of making the dish to ensure that it comes out looking and tasting great! Questions to Ask Yourself When Choosing a Wedding Catering Service

A wedding is the most memorable day of your life, and you want to make sure that every element is as memorable as possible. One of the ways to make sure every guest is happy is to serve good food. However, everyone who has ever tried to cater an event knows that this is no easy feat.

Tending to every single one of your guests and making sure that they’re all happy is not simple, and that’s why you’ll need the help of a professional catering service. To help you find a caterer that can help make the event go by smoothly, we have come up with this comprehensive guide to wedding catering.

Here are the questions to ask yourself when hiring a wedding catering service:

“What’s my budget?”
There are many different types of catering services in the market at various price points. Sure, the cheap ones have a higher margin of error compared to expensive ones, but that doesn’t mean that they must be bad.

You have to do some digging to find out about all you can about their business — read online reviews, look at their pricing, and peek at their portfolio. These things will help you to have a better idea of what that catering service is about and what you can expect of them. This way, you can choose one that’s the best fit for your event and budget.

“What can the venue recommend me?”
Wedding venues usually have their own rules and regulations, so you have to make sure that the catering service you’re working with can comply to them. If you haven’t made up your mind about which catering service you should go for, you can ask the venue manager about which service has worked there before.

It’s easier to work with a caterer that the manager knows personally, as that means that the communication between the two parties will go smoothly and expectations will already be clear in everyone’s minds. Regardless of this, it’s still a good idea to leave a memo with the caterer so that they know the ground rules beforehand.

“Who are my candidates and what is their pricing?”
It’s usually not the best idea to go for the cheapest service, nor is it a good one to always go for the most expensive. You have to compile a list of candidates and get multiple proposals so that you have some choices to choose from.

This list will help you to have a better idea of which service is the best fit for your wedding theme, venue regulations, and budget. It’s also a good idea to give the catering service a call to see how they treat their clients and how they answer your inquiries. You can use this information to gauge whether the catering service is the best fit for your event.

“Do I need to provide the tables?”
Some venues provide tables, chairs, linen, plates, and cutlery, while others don’t. If your venue doesn’t have them, you have to make sure that your caterers do. After all, nobody wants to show up on their wedding day only to find that there are no tables. As a side note, you may want to ask them about the additional fees for these services so that you can compare whether or not you should rent them from somewhere else.

“Which one do I choose?”
Once you have talked to enough candidates, you will start to have some ideas about which caterers you would like to work with most. It’s a good idea to set up a tasting for the final three or four candidates to have a better picture of who makes the best style of food you’re going for. This is going to cost you a few extra bucks, but to guarantee that you’re getting the service you’re after, it’s worth it.

You have to remember that every catering service has their own specialty, and these dishes will be the centerpieces of the wedding dinner. You want to make sure that there’s a wide variety of food choices to cater to all sorts of diets. For example, if the bride’s family is vegan, the catering service should accommodate them with vegan dishes.

It’s a good idea to have the tasting done months in advance so that you can finalize your decision within the same time frame. This way, the catering service has plenty of time to prepare themselves for your event. This can ensure better quality service and food, as the staff will have had time to practice and perfect the recipes.

Guidelines to Follow When Handling the Catering of a Corporate Event

If you are planning to host a corporate event, you need to take good care of quite a number of things to ensure that your event is a successful one. While the venue, design, and music are important, the most crucial component of any event is the food. When at events, bonding moments usually go hand-in-hand with food. You need to ensure the right drinks and a tasty meal is served on time. And for that, you need a catering service that can meet all your requirements. To select one, consider their certifications, references, taste samples of their work, and of course, proven abilities. Remember that to make your event the one that people can remember for years to come, you’ve got to get the food right. The following are a few guidelines to make your job a little easier:

Plan Well

The two things that determine the kind of food your caterer can serve to your guests are the season and the location. For instance, dishes with strong flavour are perfect for winters, while summer calls for a light and refreshing menu. Similarly, a barbecue is not ideal for a formal event, and bar stools are not welcome in a party that has senior citizens at guests. A good catering company will ask you about the venue where you intend to hold your corporate event. Only then will they suggest the kind of food that will be suitable for the event. Many venues also have a preferred caterer, which may be a great help to you since they already know the rules to follow. Most importantly, these people will come with an established network of suppliers. If you have ideas of your own that you wish to introduce, discuss them with the catering service. Be precise, because only then your caterer can deliver accurately. Also be informed on how, when, and where the food is prepared.  Do they clean up after? These are all questions for the business. For instance, you need to know whether it will be cooked beforehand, or left in chafing dishes to stay warm. Don’t forget to taste the food before finalising a caterer. Select the firm only if you like the food yourself.

Pay Attention To Special Needs

Not everyone enjoys the same food, and in today’s world, where people are extremely health conscious, you might need to take into consideration special dietary needs. There could also be sudden emergencies which could lead to alterations. Speak to your caterer if they are willing to consider these situations. A good catering firm usually does. You should also have the contact number or the manager handy so that you can stay in touch and always know what is going on during the progression of the event.

Know The Food Preference of the Guests

To have a successful party, you should be happy when the guests are happy. While the venue, decorations, and gifts definitely add to the happiness, the food is the primary element. And to ensure that the guests enjoy their food, you should know their preferences. While invitations contain the checkbox for attendees to choose their dish by default, when organising an event for your company, you can send a circular email as an invitation and ask the guests to check the box with the meal they prefer. This helps you reach every employee who will be at the party and also inform you about what they prefer to eat.

Wrapping up

Follow these guidelines strictly in order to have a successful corporate event. A quick recap of what we listed so far: (1) check the background and the reference list of the catering firm, (2) discuss your preferences, (3) consider the season and venue, carefully select the menu, (4) taste the food, (5) have the contact number of the event manager, and lastly but most importantly, (6) keep your guests happy and ensure they have a good time. A successful corporate event can rank you higher in the corporate circles, so give it your best shot!

What Type Of Catering Options Are There For Your Event?

Whether you’re hosting an international business convention or an intimate wedding reception, if there’s food involved, it’s best that you hire a reputable catering company. The professionals who work at one are more than capable at helping you plan out the right spread for the type of event you’re hosting. They’ll also shop, cook, and prepare it all as well as serve your guests. It doesn’t stop there – they’ll also clean up so that you don’t have to! Wondering about the type of events where you may want to hire a professional caterer? Take a look down below!

Wedding Reception

A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Special days like this deserve a special meal. One of the most important parts of every event is the food. Impress your guests by including catering especially designed for weddings with multiple course meals, sides, and elegant personalized desserts. You are the master of this event, so you get to decide and pick everything that will be on the spread. Whether you want a formal dinner or a casual cocktail reception where everybody can feast on finger foods as they walk around, a great catering company is more than happy to deliver.

Cocktail Reception

Catering for a cocktail reception means small, bite-sized foods that will satisfy your guests while they drink a few signature cocktails. Hors-d’oeuvres can be made in bulk while you will want to hire an excellent bartender to tend to guests as they snack and chat. Cocktail parties are not catered by all companies, but there are some that will do them; do your research and look for a company that does them well. If you want servers to walk among the crowd and offer people delicate cucumber sandwiches and crab cakes, look for a catering company that can provide that service as well.

The Buffet

Everyone loves an all-you-can-eat buffet spread. You get the change to pick what you want, serve yourself as much as you want, and then go back for more! Also, who doesn’t love having a wide range of dessert options? For the event host, a buffet can cater to the picky eaters, the big eaters, and any other type of issue that comes with food at events because you can lay out all the options, and guests will find their way around. You will need a space for this layout, but it will be well worth it when you know there will be options for everyone. Most buffets are also self-serving, which will save you on having to hire servers.

Corporate Events

Corporate events can be underrated but can be fun. With sandwiches and snack foods, what’s not to love? Your even could be elevated with a catering company to help prepare, set up and clean afterwards. Corporate catering events are typically held at lunch and are designed to hold your guests over before a long meeting.

Office Catering

Office catering has become a bit of a trend. It is an excellent way to treat your hard-working staff and will promote employee happiness. Regardless of if you’re celebrating something special or just want to surprise your employees, look for an amazing catering company to help you make it a memorable event!

What to Consider When Hiring a Professional Caterer

Regardless of whether you’re holding a small intimate birthday party or a large business seminar, a professional caterer may be exactly what you need. Food and drink is an important part of any event.

Caterers are there to add value to your event, whether it’s by providing a five-course meal with waiters, a buffet for a wedding reception, or finger food for a conference. There are plenty of reasons to hire a caterer. If you’re in the process of looking for one, however, don’t just grab your laptop and start contacting caterers in the neighborhood. Make it easier for yourself (and your caterer) by considering these four important things beforehand:

1 – When the event is being held
You need to know when your event will take place if you want to book a caterer. During the planning process, chances are you have a couple of potential dates but haven’t settled on a final date. Sure, you could call for more information about what your potential caterer can offer. However, you won’t be able to get as much done if you don’t have a final date in mind. It’s important to remember that weekend slots fill up quickly so if you’re planning a weekend event, make sure you book a caterer further ahead of time.

2 – The number of people you will have to serve
A range will suffice when it comes to the number of people you have to serve. Most experienced caterers can work with that. However, it has to be a realistic range. A caterer can probably work with a range of 40 to 50. A range of 50 to 100, however, is very different. Make sure you have a good idea of how many people will be attending prior to getting in touch with a caterer.

3 – Where your event is being held
Caterers who have been in business for some time usually have worked with many different venues and may even be able to help you find one if you haven’t settled on one yet. That being said, it would be better for both you and the caterer to settle on a location ahead of time. This makes it possible for them to give you a better price estimate. It will also help a lot with regard to the planning.

4 – The amount of money you want to spend
Some people don’t know or don’t want to share the amount of money they’re willing to spend on a caterer. However, it would be a good idea to set up a budget. This will make it easier for you to rule out ones that are definitely out of your budget and consider those that you can afford.

Wrapping up
It’s important to consider the basic information of your event prior to getting in touch with potential catering companies. This is not only because you’ll be forced to get started on the planning but also because you’ll be setting yourself up to plan effectively. It’s understandable that you may not have every single little detail figured out. However, the basics are important. Besides, great caterers may be able to help you figure out those little details and host an incredible event. Caterers specialize in using food and drink to add value to an event. Those with significant experience have attended and worked hundreds or even thousands of events. They’ll be able to give you tips on how to make sure your event runs smoothly.

When your event is successful, your caterer’s work has been successful too. By making sure your basic details are worked out ahead of time, you’ll be setting both you and your caterer up for success!

Catering for a Seminar – What Should You Get?

You’re organizing a business seminar but have no idea what kind of catering to provide. Try to take the number of participants, the location, and atmosphere into consideration to start with. For a seminar with clients, opting for a buffet or sit-down meal might be best, whereas a team-building or employee seminar may be more suitable for a cocktail lunch.

Meal Type

Before deciding what kind of food to serve, identifying the objective of the seminar will definitely help. Whether it’s for training purposes, management or team building, answering these questions will define the aim of your seminar, thus helping you plan it further. Whether or not your attendees will be standing or sitting for the majority of this seminar can be an important consideration to make as the stand-up format might feel a little more informal and is generally recommended with more than 50 people. A sit-down or lunch or dinner may make the atmosphere a lot more formal and the meals may be a bit more substantial, making it perfect for a seminar meant for business partners or clients.

Cocktail Party Option

A cocktail event would normally be held either mid-morning or late afternoon. For this type of party, there are no tables and chairs, but there may be bar tables for guests to place drinks and other items. Food is arranged on one large table and guests will serve themselves. Plates and glasses are usually made of plastic or cardboard, cutlery is limited and the food is mainly in bite-sized portions, making it easy to eat.

Aperitif Cocktails

Generally, this type of cocktail party involves hot and cold food, sweet and savory bites and even appetizers served before a sit-down lunch or dinner.

Cocktail Lunch

This involves gourmet-style food served for lunch from midday.

Cocktail Dinner

This replaces dinner and is served from 6 pm.

Advantages to Cocktail Parties

These types of parties are great because they’re economical, requires less staff, less space, and is less cleaning after it’s over. Even though the atmosphere for cocktail parties is less formal, it is still ideal for meeting new people or building relationships. Guests can move more freely, making communication a lot easier.

The Buffet Option

Since a buffet means more substantial food, guests are generally seated. Buffets are best for lunch or dinner and this kind of catering will need enough space for tables and chairs, as well as the buffet itself. Even though guests can serve themselves, hiring a waiter can give a more formal feel to your seminar. With this option, the menu is more flexible and can include starters, salads, meat or seafood-based course and a dessert, possibly with a charcuterie platter or cheese board on the side. A buffet is generally either hot or cold, and you could provide a mix of cold and hot dishes to offer more variety. And just as with the cocktail option, the dishes and cutlery are often disposable, but if your budget allows for it, there’s nothing wrong with using actual cutlery.

Advantages to Buffets
Because the buffet option requires less staff, it will be cheaper. It will also be more comfortable as guests can sit down to enjoy themselves while having a proper meal. It can be quite the social even as well since guests can mingle and talk at the tables or even while getting a serving of food. Try to arrange a good amount and layout with your caterer to work with your number of guests to avoid having to queue up.

Sit-Down Meal Option

Also known as the three-course meal option, which is more formal as the guests remain seated and are served by waiting staff. Since the menu is provided in advance, things are more organized and schedules are easier to stick with. The downside is that guests will not be able to have second helpings and the wait between each course may be longer.

The Rest
If your seminar will take place throughout a full day, it is crucial to allow breaks in the middle of the morning and afternoon so that participants can get up, stretch and recharge. These breaks should include hot drinks or fruit juice, along with a sweet snack such as fresh fruit, biscuits, a cake or pastry. Finally, if your seminar is lasting more than one day, consider offering breakfast, preferably in a buffet format to save time.
